Bodywork Treatments

Do you know what you want out of your massage session? You'll receive a better massage if you communicate your primary goal to your therapist as clearly as possible.

  • Do you want relax and forget the world for an hour?
  • Do you have scars or injuries that need therapeutic work?
  • Do you feel unbalanced or ungrounded?

Once you have a goal in mind, take a minute to browse through the following modalities to learn what might be best for you. If you have questions, please ask.

hands massaging back

Swedish
Swedish Massage as we know it today was developed by Swedish gymnast and athlete Per Heinrik Ling in the early 1800's. Long, sweeping strokes, accompanied by kneading, tapping, friction and rocking soothe your nervous system. This type of massage is wonderful if you prefer light to medium touch and deep relaxation.

Deep tissue or neuromuscular with thumbs
Deep Tissue
Best used on specific/problem areas like an achy shoulder. Usually, little or no lotion is used to allow your therapist to sink fully into connective tissue and muscle. Slow, deep, sculpting strokes along with compression, friction and cross-fibering (strokes going against the grain of the muscle) are used.

Neuromuscular
Sometimes your body can create "trigger points," little spots of supposed metabolic waste that trigger pain in other areas of your body. By holding these specific points for 4-12 seconds at a time, your therapist can help you reduce pain and restore function to affected areas of the body. Like deep tissue massage, this modality is best used on a specific area of the body.

soothing aromatherapy foot bath

My Sole's Gone to Heaven Treatment
Pressed for time? This delightful treat for hands and feet will relax your whole being. Treatment starts with an aromatherapy footh bath. Then your feet and ankles are massaged with mint foot lotion. The treatment finishes with hot river stones soothingly inserted between the toes to keep your feet warm while your hands and forearms are massaged. Simply Celestial!

Chakra Connection
During this treatment, the body's major and several minor energy centers are balanced to allow energy to flow freely. Chakra Connection is very effective as a stand-alone treatment or added to a massage.
